Colin Samuels & Rotherfield Park Cricket Club
Rotherfield Park Cricket Club is located in the village of East Tisted on the edge of the Meon Valley in East Hampshire. A picturesque setting on a slopping ground with a flat and true wicket that was laid by the then ground staff at Lord’s at the request of the Scott family who wanted the cricket pitch moved from the grounds of the Rotherfield Park Estate. An idyllic location for the game where many a catch has been missed by fielders concentrating more on the circling buzzards, hawks and kites rather than the game.
Cricket has been played at the ground for over 100 years originally the club played as East Tisted Cricket Club and when they stopped playing Saturday Cricket in 1976 Rotherfield Park Cricket Club was formed.
Rotherfield Park Cricket Club was set up by George Fuller, Bob Jackson and Bob Newens and forty years on the club still has family members playing with son Chris Fuller and grandson Jack Charlton, sons Paul & Steve Jackson and grandsons Charlie, Tim and Chris and sons Tristran and Seb Newens being the backbone of the club.
After 40 years of playing friendly cricket on Sunday and entering in the local 20 over Medstead Knockout Cup, Rotherfield Park entered the Hampshire County League in 2008 playing Saturday cricket in Regional North East Division 4. Despite losing the first game at Titchborne Park by the smallest of margins, one run, the club went on an unbeaten run for the rest of the season, winning twelve games and being crowned league champions at the first time of asking.
The following season 2009 saw stiffer competition in the higher division North East 3 thankfully Rotherfield Park rose to the challenge winning all fourteen games once again topping the league table and collecting further silverware.
The club had previously had some success in the Medstead Knockout Cup winning the local competition Supplementary Cup on 3 Occasions
Rotherfield Park still enjoys the friendly games played on a Sunday and the opportunity to play local sides and catch up with old friends.
The main ethos of the club is to make cricket available to all and make the games affordable for all. We are always happy to take new players and anyone wanting to join the club should contact us through the website for further details.
Having played at our East Tisted home for over 100 years the club house is in need of a face lift and the next few years our intention is to bring our facilities up to the 21st century through local support and the England Cricket Board Cricket Force Scheme. This will further secure the long term future of our club and the game within the community.
